William "Bill" Thomas Burgmeier, age 85, of Kandiyohi, died Wednesday morning, April 18, at the Golden Living Center in Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 23, at the Church of Our Lady in Manannah. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, April 22 at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home with a Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m. and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Bill was born on October 23, 1926, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the son of John J. and Lucille (Krausert) Burgmeier. He grew up in St. Cloud, graduated from Cathedral High School in 1944 and attended Crosier Seminary in Onamia. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II in the Pacific Theatre. On April 2, 1948, he was united in marriage to Rita "Peggy" Franks and they made their home on a farm south of Kandiyohi on the shores of Little Kandiyohi Lake. He was employed for many years with the Great Northern Railroad and later Burlington Northern Railroad as a clerk.
Bill had a strong Catholic faith with a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a steward of the land. Bill's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his passion.
He is survived by eleven of his children, Tom Burgmeier of Loveland, CO., Ann (and Doug) Moudry of Kandiyohi, Catherine Moudry of Kandiyohi, Stephen (and Betty) Burgmeier of Lockridge, IA., Chris (and Vicki) Burgmeier of Hall, MT., Patrick G. Burgmeier of Willmar, Michael Burgmeier (and fiancee, Ann Zaruba) of Lockridge, IA., Mark Burgmeier of Farmington, John Gregory (and Theresa) Burgmeier of Atwater, Mary "Beth" (and Ernst) van Gulijk of New London and Barbara Burgmeier of Willmar; 39 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Gerald (and Neomi) Burgmeier of Longville; one sister-in-law, Deloris Burgmeier of Cottage Grove; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Burgmeier of North Bend, OR. and one son-in-law, Jerry Moudry of Eden Valley, besides many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy in 1992; one son, Karl in 2008; his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
