William G. Kositzky, age 77, of Willmar died Tuesday evening, July 18th, at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, July 24, at the United Methodist Church in Willmar with Rev. Kenneth Haack officiating. A private interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. There will be no visitation or reviewal. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Willmar.
William Gustav Kositzky was born on February 22, 1929, in Colome, South Dakota, the son of Katharine (Ellis) and Edwin P. Kositzky. He grew up in Winner, South Dakota, and graduated from high school there in 1947. He graduated from South Dakota State University in 1952 and received a masters degree from Colorado State College in 1958, later attending classes at the University of Minnesota and Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He married Janice Maxfield in Milbank, South Dakota, on February 17, 1952. Bill taught school in Adrian, Minnesota and was high school principal in Butterfield and Madison, Minnesota. He was Director of the 212 Cooperative Center as well as the Redwood Cooperative Center, was interim superintendent in Bird Island and superintendent in Cromwell-Wright School. Following retirement he worked for 10 years as a representative for the Minnesota Liquid Asset Fund, working with the Minnesota School Board Association.
Bill was selected for the Bush Public Schools Executive Fellows program in 1976 and was selected LacQuiParle outstanding administrator. He taught firearm safety and developed and operated adult education programs in Madison. He served as co-chairman of the United Methodist Church building committee in Olivia, was chairman of village of Olivia planning commission, chairman of LacQuiParle rural area development park and recreation committee, chairman of Madison Chamber fine arts committee, president of Madison Kiwanis club and master of the Masonic Lodge of Madison. He was a member of Sharon Masonic Lodge of Willmar and was awarded Mason of the Year in 1991. Bill also was a member of the Willmar Noon Kiwanis Club and served on the Willmar Zoning Variance Committee for several years and was a member of the Willmar United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Lynn (and Steve) Japs of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Kari (and Paul) Pierson of Worthington, Minnesota; one son Tom (and Sandra) Kositzky of Tacoma, Washington, and ten grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Paul (and Bobbe) Kositzky of Graceville; two sisters, JoAnn (and Clifford) Klein of Valentine, Nebraska, and Cora (and Doug) Kuhlman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and several nieces, nephews and cousins, besides other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ellis Kositzky.
