Bill was born May 28, 1919, in Kandiyohi, Minnesota, the son of William and Erna (Krebbs) Lehrke. Bill grew up in Kandiyohi with two brothers and graduated from Willmar High School. Bill married Deloris Lindblad, of Willmar, on October 15, 1940 and they made their home in Willmar. They had two children, Jean and Bruce. From 1944-1945 Bill served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. Following the war, he received training in Minneapolis and returned to Willmar where he owned and operated Wardrobe Tailors in downtown Willmar until his retirement in 1981. Bill has resided at Bethesda Heritage Center since March of 2007.
Bill and Deloris had many good friends in the area, and loved to socialize with them, especially around playing cards, and Bill's lifelong interests in golfing, fishing and hunting. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will always have wonderful memories of a very patient man, quiet and gentle, who taught them to fish with patience and play cards for fun, among many other things.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Deloris in 2007 and one brother, Robert.
Bill is survived by his brother, Roger, of Spicer and Mesa, AZ; his daughter, Jean and son-in-law, Stephen P. Hersh, MD, who live outside of Washington, DC; his son, Bruce, who resides in Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren; Kim Schmidt, Damon Hersh, Katie Clark, Justin Hersh, and Tessa Hersh; and six great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Haydon Schmidt, Alexandra and Samantha Clark, Sofia and Benjamin William Hersh, besides other relatives and friends.
